Our History
In 1978, Abraham Wieder, our president emeritus, founded The Monroe Cable Company to fill a niche supplying electrical cables to the local harness and connectivity houses that were overlooked or not prioritized by the large multinational wire and cable companies.
He attended a Small Business Administration event in Washington, D.C. dedicated to government contracting opportunities. At this event, he met a representative of a distribution company focused on servicing the US Navy, who advised him of the need for an additional supplier and provided some initial contacts and product scope ideas. What followed was a continuous path towards becoming a full service naval shipboard wire and cable supplier.
We rose to the challenge of meeting stringent US Navy requirements and protocols that ensure safety, quality, and compliance. We built the manufacturing capacity and capabilities to deliver precision wire and cable for a range of challenging conditions and complex applications. Our products would ultimately be used on every active combat vessel in the US Navy, a testament to our commitment to precision and quality and how far our company has come.
Since that initial encounter, The Monroe Cable Company has grown from naval vessel wiring to custom cable manufacturing for transit systems, marine oil and gas companies, fire departments and the energy industry. We are a proudly family-owned cable manufacturer based in Middletown, New York.
